2.5Kg. Bursting Maul with mis-hit guard  Réf. : 231256
USE

For splitting logs (particularly logs less than 50cm long).

The striking surface is designed for knocking in wedges where splitting is difficult.

PRODUCT BENEFITS

Large rounded striking area:
- facilitates the knocking in of wedges.
- delays the formation of burrs.
- lessens the risk of flying chips.

New head geometry (side bosses):
- facilitates log splitting.
- avoids the blade sticking in dense wood.
- reinforces the socket.

Forged carbon steel, hardened and tempered.

Composite Novagrip handle:
- Fibreglass core: better resistance to mis-hits.
- Elastomeric anti-slip and anti-vibration handle: comfortable to hold.
- Pierced handle for hanging the tool.
- Flush socket handle fitting: protects the end of the handle.

Rubber mis-hit guard: Protects the handle and lessens jarring from mis-hits.

GUIDELINES FOR USE

Never split wood directly on the ground but use a log, so that the tool blade is not damaged by striking the ground.

SAFETY ADVICE

Wear glasses, gloves and protective clothing.

The main risk from these tools is posed by flying chips, either from the tool itself or the object being struck. Chips can be due to a metallurgical defect, simple aging or incorrect use.

The striking surfaces of sledge hammers and mauls undergo heat treatment which gives them high resistance to impacts but it is absolutely forbidden to knock two striking surfaces together, one against the other: the risk of chipping is real and serious. You must therefore never hit a maul directly with a sledge hammer.

MAINTENANCE ADVICE

For sledge hammers and mauls, the appearance of a burr can result from two different things:
- if the burr is produced quickly and cracks appear after an hour of use, there could be a defect in the metal or in the tool's heat treatment. You should stop using the tool and request a replacement under warranty from your supplier.
- on the other hand if a light burr without cracks appears after intensive use, this is just normal aging which appears when two metal surfaces are struck together. It is sufficient simply to refresh the surface, remake the chamfer and round the edges with a file or grinder.

When grinding, it is essential to avoid overheating the ground surface, as this will destroy the hardness obtained by the original heat treatment.

2.5Kg. Bursting Maul with mis-hit guard
The first Nova fibreglass handle was created by Leborgne for these percussion tools.

For greater safety and comfort, the Novagrip tri-material handle is protected by a rubber mis-hit guard which gives it increased strength and reduces jarring from mis-hits.
